Breakthrough development
Mr. Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade emphasized at the seminar “Improving the competitiveness of logistics service providers”, with a special geographical position located in the dynamic development area of the world.
In the world, where the flow of goods is very concentrated, and the exchange is very strong, Vietnam is considered to have advantages in geo-economics, which is very convenient to promote production, export, and logistics services.
The Vietnamese government has identified an important service industry in the overall structure of the national economy, playing a role in supporting, connecting and promoting the country’s socio-economic development.
Within the framework of the workshop, the Import-Export Department also announced the Vietnam Import-Export Report 2021.
According to the report, the country’s export turnover reached 336,310 billion USD, up 19% compared to 2020.
The 10 leading provinces in the country in export turnover include Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Ninh, Binh Duong, and Thai. Nguyen, Hai Phong, Dong Nai, Bac Giang, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Phu Tho.
Although ranked 10th (up 3 places compared to 2020) in the ranking of leading localities, Phu Tho is the locality with the highest proportion, reaching 91.5% compared to 2020 with a value of 8, 2 billion USD.
Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City is the locality with the leading proportion in the country, reaching 44,902 billion USD, but only achieved an increase of 1.2% compared to 2020.
Particularly, Hanoi capital ranked 8th (down 1 place compared to 2020, behind Bac Giang) of the whole country, reaching 15.5 billion USD but also increasing only 2.2% compared to 2020.
Notably
In the provinces at the bottom of the “ranking”, Bac Kan only reached 41,248 million USD, but had a growth rate of 276.6% compared to 2020, up 3 places by rank.
Although the group of provinces such as Son La and Lai Chau still have an increased growth compared to 2020, the statistical ranking of export turnover still “stays” at 61st and 62nd positions compared to the whole country.
Through the above figures, it can be seen that the whole country in 2021, despite being heavily affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, still achieved an increase in the export proportion of 19%.
Rich potential
Assessing Vietnam’s logistics market, Mr. Nguyen Trieu Quang, Director of Northern Operations Division, Lazada logistics Vietnam, said that the logistics market in our country has great potential and is developing very strongly.
In 2023, Vietnam entered the top 10 emerging logistics markets in the world, ranked fourth in Southeast Asia and 10th – according to Agility’s annual ranking.
Quang said that Vietnam is benefiting from the wave of supply chain shifts, along with an optimistic economic growth rate. Therefore, Vietnam will soon become the “logistics star” of Asia in the near future.
And Mr. Dinh Hoai Nam, Business Development Director, SLP Vietnam Company, said that Vietnam is a production- and export-centric economy, with the growth rate of the manufacturing sector, maintained. at about 9% per year.
In 2021, Vietnam’s export turnover will reach 336 billion USD, up 18.9% over the same period, of which 90% of the volume of goods is transported by sea.
Vietnam is also a new destination for the world’s leading manufacturers, however, logistics costs are still high. In 2022, this cost in Vietnam will be about 16.8%, while the world average is about 10%.
This is an opportunity for large logistics service providers and developers in Vietnam and the world.
Change to be worthy
Phan Van Chinh, Director of the Import-Export Department (Ministry of Industry and Trade), said the average annual growth rate of the logistics industry is from 14 to 16%.
According to Agility’s annual ranking, in 2023 logistics is one of the fastest-growing and most stable industries in Vietnam.
Limitations
- The cost of logistics services in our country is still high.
- The promotion of linkages between logistics enterprises, logistics enterprises, and manufacturing and exporting enterprises weak has not yet formed a network of large-scale logistics enterprises, capable of leading the market, promoting the development of the logistics industry…
According to Mr. Chinh, one of the reasons for the above limitations is that the application of digital technology has not really met the development needs of the new situation.
Green logistics development
According to a survey by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, more than 66% of surveyed enterprises have a green logistics development strategy, but only about 31 % have used renewable energy in warehousing operations.
The ministry assessed that the practice of activities for the sake of sustainable development has not yet achieved widespread effectiveness.
In order to develop a modern and sustainable logistics industry, Mr. Nguyen Trieu Quang, said that businesses can focus on investing in 3 main points:
- Improving the experience of freight forwarding from every touch point.
- Applying technology and process standardization to optimize operational performance.
- Develop sustainable green logistics.
In order to catch up with the market, and save a lot of time and money from digitization, Mr. Truong Tan Loc, Marketing Director of Saigon Newport Corporation emphasized.
For logistics businesses, it is necessary to have a hand in hand with enterprises in the industry, to cooperate and develop together, and to strengthen linkages to increase the competitiveness of Vietnam’s logistics services.
For seaport enterprises in Vietnam, building a common data system for the seaport system, connecting with ports in the region and around the world will contribute to increasing exploitation efficiency and competitiveness of Vietnam with neighboring port clusters such as Singapore or Thailand and Hong Kong”, Mr. Loc commented.
